Arc's Second Annual Arcademy Gala Feb. 21
Brings Hollywood Glamour to a Good Cause

January 14, 2009

ST. PAUL – If you can’t make the trip to Hollywood for the Academy Awards on Feb. 22, you can still put some razzle-dazzle in your life at the Arcademy Gala right here in the Twin Cities just one day before the Oscars. Put on your evening finery and join Arc Greater Twin Cities for a night of red carpet glamour on Saturday, Feb. 21, starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency, 1300 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis.

The Arcademy Gala is a benefit on behalf of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and Arcademy guests will be inspired by stories of lives touched by Arc. The evening will also include a fabulous cocktail reception, gourmet dining, captivating live and silent auctions, and an engaging program featuring local artists who share a passion for opportunities for people with disabilities. Performers will include:

  • Singer/songwriter Dan Wilson, winner of the 2007 Grammy Song of the Year for “Not Ready to Make Nice” and former member of storied bands Trip Shakespeare and Semisonic;
  • Interact Performing Arts Company, an internationally acclaimed troupe that includes many artists with disabilities;
  • Local piano prodigy Christopher E. Savitt, a senior at the Minnesota State Academy for the Blind;
  • Café Accordion Orchestra, which plays its own unique blend of vintage swing, Latin, American and French café music.

Gala Co-Chairs John and Paula Kelly have a very personal connection with Arc. “We have a son with autism, and we've been able to address our deepest concerns regarding him with Arc, from elementary school through his 18th birthday," said John, Vice President, Tax, UnitedHealth Group. “Knowing what a comfort that’s been to us, we want to help ensure that Arc is there for other families.”

Paula added, “That’s why we’re so happy to be involved with the Arcademy Gala. Come join us at the gala and you’ll not only have a wonderful time, but you’ll see how Arc is touching lives every day. We know it will warm your heart.”

The 2008 Arcademy Gala was a sellout, so don’t wait to reserve your place at this year’s event. Tickets are $150 per person. To purchase tickets or get more information, call Arc at (952) 920-0855 or visit www.arcgreatertwincities.org.
