ST. PAUL – If you’re considering a guardian or a conservator for a
family member with an intellectual or a developmental disability, you may
wonder what options you have, what factors to consider and what steps to take.
Get answers to your questions at two workshops from Arc Greater Twin Cities
coming in October to the Chanhassen Recreation Center, Room 2, 2310 Coulter
Blvd., Chanhassen.
Preparing for Guardianship is an introductory session that takes a broad
overview of substitute decision-making, including less restrictive alternatives
to guardianship and/or conservatorship, the powers of guardianship and the
rights of the individual who is under guardianship. It will be held on
Wednesday, Oct. 8, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Legal Process of Guardianship outlines the steps to take in appointing a
guardian. An attorney will explain the legal process for obtaining
guardianship, modifying guardianship and terminating guardianship orders. This
session will be on Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Participants may attend either workshop or both. The cost of each workshop is
$10 for Arc members and $25 for non-members. For registration or more
information, call Arc at (952) 920-0855 or visit www.arcgreatertwincities.org.
